The planet is on the path to destruction, and we need to think philosophically (and politically and personally) about what we can do now. How do French and Francophone thinkers understand our presence on planet Earth? How can French thought help us confront environmental challenges? How do Francophone thinkers from the Global South intervene in the tradition of environmental thought? How and why is Rousseau still a reference for our understanding of nature? If you want to think theoretically about climate change, environmentalism, and the history of nature, this class if for you. It is taught in English and does not have any pre-requirements to enroll. Offered spring 2022.
