Why did you become a tutor?
I wanted to become a tutor because I loving teaching students. I have been a UTA for bio 1 and biochem for a while and I find teaching to be very rewarding. You not only are helping the student, but you are also reinforcing the material for yourself, and it gives you a chance to look at the material in may different ways.
What is your favorite thing about the subject in which you tutor?
For me, it is really interesting to understand how all of the enzymes and pathways regulate the processes that go on in our bodies, tying biology with human physiology. Then, you get to mesh in how your nervous system works as the overall master in coordinating all of these functions and you really do develop a true appreciation for the sciences.
What is the best study tip you have for a student taking one of the courses you tutor?
Draw the pathways over and over again and use colors to differentiate what stimulates each pathway and what inhibits it! Whether it be dopaminergic signaling for neuroscience, the ETC for bio 1, or lipid synthesis for biochemistry, drawing things out always helps with remembering material.
