Become a Peer Advisor

Applications to join the Dietrich School Peer Advising program are not being accepted at this time. If you have any questions about the program, please send an email to advcentr@pitt.edu.

Peer Advisors can join the Advising Center staff in their sophomore, junior, or senior years. Students begin as interns in the Peer Advisor program, and can transition to paid student employees after completing the internship course (ARTSC or PSY 1900), which is offered during each Spring semester. Becoming a Peer Advisor is a great opportunity to develop communication, problem solving, and critical thinking skills, all while helping other undergraduate students and their families.

Responsibilities include:

  • Meeting with new first year and transfer students during their transitional advising process,
  • Responding to questions about Dietrich School majors/minors and other programs,
  • Helping students build their class schedules and complete their registration process, and
  • Assisting the administrative staff and on-call advisor in the Advising Center.

New applications for the Peer Advisor internship program are typically evaluated during each Fall semester, after which the students enroll in and complete the internship course during the follwoing Spring semester. This internship course (ARTSC or PSY 1900) is required for all students intending to become Peer Advisors.
