Turing Auditing Seminar Series

Turing Auditing Seminar Series to Address GenAI in Academic Work

A two-part virtual seminar series is set to empower educators with a novel methodology to safeguard academic integrity in the era of generative AI. Open to all faculty, including professors, advisors, assistants, and educators regardless of classroom duties, the series offers two focused workshops designed to confront the pressing issue of GenAI writing in student submissions.

Exigence & Salience

Recent advances in generative AI have led to an increase in AI-assisted student work, often in direct opposition to academic integrity policies and professor expectations, posing significant challenges to traditional academic standards. This seminar series responds to the urgent need for reliable, innovative methods to detect and quantify AI intrusion in academic assignments. As institutions grapple with maintaining fairness and academic rigor, these workshops provide timely solutions and expert guidance.

Seminar One: "Turing Auditing Training"

  • Date: September 24
  • Time: 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
  • Format: Virtual Conference
In this session, participants will be introduced to Turing Auditing, a novel methodology designed to discover and quantify instances of AI-generated content in student work. The training will cover practical protocols and procedures, tools, technology, and both assessment metrics and quantitative outcomes to equip educators with skills to identify GenAI intrusions.

Seminar Two: "Turing Auditing and Academic Integrity"

  • Date: September 26
  • Time: 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
  • Format: Virtual Conference
Building on the technical training, the second seminar delves into the broader implications for academic integrity. Experts will discuss how to integrate Turing Auditing into existing academic policies and establish protocol that preserve the core values of scholarship. This session emphasizes the importance of ethical practices and transparency in evaluating student work, ensuring that the integrity of academic assessment is maintained, as well as how to broach the difficult topic with a student suspected by the Turing Audit procedure of having misused GenAI.

Protocol & Value

Both seminars are structured to deliver a mix of theoretical insight and hands-on practice. By participating, educators will gain a comprehensive understanding of Turing Auditing protocols and learn best practices for its application in various academic settings.

Who Should Attend?

This event is designed for all faculty members, administrators, or others, regardless of college or typical assignment type, and regardless of whether you’re actively engaged in classroom instruction or support academic endeavors from an advisory or administrative role. The skills and strategies presented will prove valuable across diverse educational contexts, providing essential tools to confront the challenges of AI-driven academic work.
